Motorola, originally an American telecommunications company based in Illinois, was later split into Motorola Mobility and Motorola Solutions. Motorola’s original business involved design and marketing of wireless network infrastructure equipment such as cellular transmission base stations, signal amplifiers, set top boxes, digital video recorders, computer telephony, and HD television. Motorola handset division was a pioneer in cellular telephones and pioneered the 'flip phone'. Motorola Mobility now has introduced a range of Smartphones using Google’s open-source Android mobile operating system and is the first phone to use the newest version of Google open source OS, Android 2. Today Motorola Mobility LLC is owned by Google and is making a comeback in the mobile space with its new brands of Smartphones.
